Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions

Why can’t I see the picture after I upload it?

We do not have a visualizer that displays the picture on the pendant when the image is uploaded on the product page. Your image goes through several stages of editing with our engravers to ensure that the result is the best quality before it is engraved onto the surface of the jewelry.

For instance, the background can be removed when requested, people can be cropped in or out of the engraved image upon request and the image is enhanced to increase sharpness and overall image quality.

Is the photo engraved into the metal or laid across the top?

The image is engraved onto the surface of the pendant.  It is permanently engraved and not adhered to the surface with any sort of adhesive or sticker.

If I send you a colored photo will it be engraved in color?

The resulting image is in a black and white grayscale regardless of the submitted photo’s initial color. The engraved black and white image is an exact replica of the uploaded photo, comes professionally cropped and is enhanced per your instructions by our professional engravers.


 

We do offer full-color photo engraved jewelry.  The pendant has a textured surface with a white background and the resulting image is a full-color replica of the uploaded photo The engraved image has the same texture as the pendant background, which allows you to touch and feel the engraving.

Can I see what the photo looks like before it’s engraved? Can I see a proof?

There is no charge to see a proof as it is a complimentary service we offer to our customers upon request.  We are happy to make any requested corrections and will not engrave your selected pendant or keepsake until you are completely satisfied with the proof.

Please note that we cannot send a proof until your order is placed.

Can I see a proof of the text engraving on the back?

We not offer proofs for text engraving. The proof is not representative of how the text is engraved so therefore we don't honor requests to see a proof of engraved text.

Photo Basics FAQ's

How do I get my photo to you?

There are four different ways that you can get your photo of choice to Jewelry Keepsakes.

Upload it on the product page. On the individual product pages of our photo engraved keepsakes, we have a spot that lets you upload your digital image. There is additional space for the customer to add any cropping instructions, as well and any additional engraving instructions.

For those with their picture readily available and in digital format, this is the fastest and easiest way to get your picture to our engraver.

Upload on the image upload page.  We have a convenient upload page where you can easily upload the image you’d like engraved.  Simply upload the image and enter your e-mail, your name and any additional instructions such as cropping, etc.

E-mail the image. You can also e-mail us the image you would like engraved. The picture can be e-mailed to sales@jewelrykeepsakes.com and we encourage you to include any cropping instructions and additional details about the photo that you would like our engraver to be aware of.

Mail the actual photograph. If uploading on the product page and e-mailing the image are not viable options for you, there is always postal mail. Pictures can be sent to Jewelry Keepsakes and you should reference your order number when you send the picture in.

The picture will be scanned and then mailed back to you along with your photo engraved keepsake.

What type of file do you need?

Sending us a jpeg file is best, and we require it to be a minimum of 400 pixels. If the pixels are lower than 400, the quality of the picture is significantly diminished.   To provide the best quality image on the keepsake, 400 pixels or higher is required.

Can I mail in a polaroid?

Sure! We will scan the polaroid and engrave the image onto the surface of the pendant. The picture will then be mailed back with the photo engraved keepsake. Be sure to note any particular cropping instructions when mailing in a polaroid picture.

Can I see a proof?

If a customer requires a proof before engraving, we can definitely provide that. Most times, with clear instructions on what the customer is looking for, our master engravers can do exactly as the customer has asked.

If a customer wants a proof, we reach out to the customer to get their approval before any engraving commences.  Additionally, we contact the customer if our engraver is not necessarily happy with the way that a picture fits on the requested keepsake or is having difficulty with the provided cropping instructions.  This takes place before any engraving begins so that we can ensure our customers are getting exactly what they requested.

Simply request a proof in the Photo Comments Box on the product page.  Our engravers will e-mail you a proof to approve before your pendant is engraved.

Is there a charge to see a proof? What if I am not happy with the proof and have more corrections?

There is no charge to see a proof as it is a complimentary service that we offer to our customers upon request.  We are happy to make the requested corrections and will not engrave your selected pendant or keepsake until you are completely satisfied with the proof.

Please note that we cannot send a proof until your order is placed.

Can you remove the background?

Yes, we can remove any background from a picture. The photo can be cropped to your exact specifications and highlight exactly what the customer is looking and asking for. The higher the image quality, the better the clarity of the resulting engraving.

I don’t want the full picture to be engraved. Do I need to crop the image, or can you do that for me?

Our engravers are professionals and the purchase price of the photo engraved jewelry includes our professional editing expertise.  List all cropping instructions in the Photo Comments Box on the product page and our engravers will take care of it.  If you would like to see a proof before your selection is engraved, the Photo Comments Box is also where you would request a proof.

Can you merge two pictures into one picture for the engraving?

Absolutely! We can add people together if that is what you are looking for.  You can send in multiple images and request a merging of the people in the photo, or we can take one person from one picture and a person from another photo and add both to one keepsake.

Additionally, you can engrave both sides of the pendant. This allows customers to choose two photos they love and have a picture engraved onto each side of the keepsake.

Can you remove people from the image and only engrave the people I want?

We absolutely can!  Simply upload the image and comment in the Photo Comment Box of the product page whom you would like engraved onto the jewelry.  We can center in on one individual, crop out backgrounds, adjust the engraving to be from the waist up, provide only headshots and more.

Can you combine a picture of my kids with a picture of our dog into one engraved photo?

Yes, we can!  You can choose to upload one photo on the product page and then e-mail us the additional photo at sales@jewelrykeepsakes.com.  You can also use our convenient image upload page to upload your additional photo.

Be sure to include any cropping instructions or comments in the Photo Comments Box on the product page.

Can you add in hair if it is missing?

Yes, hair can be added in. We do recommend sending in an image of the hairstyle requested so that it can be cropped and added into the engraved image in proper likeness.

Please note that it is a little more difficult to add in hair that has varying shades of light and dark, but we will certainly do our best.

Can I engrave a photo on each side?

Absolutely!  You can upload one image on the product page and use the image upload page for the additional image, referencing your name and phone number.  You can also e-mail us the additional image as well as any additional cropping instructions to sales@jewelrykeepsakes.com.  Should you need assistance with ordering photo engraved jewelry for two photos, give us a call at 1-877-723-7229 and we will be happy to help!

Is the image actually engraved onto the pendant or is it a sticker?

The image is engraved onto the surface of the pendant.  It is permanently engraved and not adhered to the surface with any sort of adhesive or sticker.

Will the image wear off over time?

No, the photo is permanently etched into the surface of the pendant. The surface of the pendant can be scratched however, so we recommend not wearing multiple pendants together or with other charms to prevent scratches.

Engraving FAQ's

What color is the resulting image?

The resulting image is in a black and white grayscale regardless of the submitted photo’s initial color.  The engraved image is an exact replica of the uploaded photo, is professionally cropped and is enhanced per your instructions by our professional engravers.

Do you offer full-color engraving?

We do offer full-color engraving!  Our full-color pendants are made of stainless steel and have a textured surface with a white background.  The image that you select is engraved in full-color onto the surface of the pendant and the texture allows you to actually feel the photo, increasing the emotional value of the photo engraved pendant.

I don’t like the white background on the full-color pendants. Can I get the image engraved with full-color on the stainless steel pendants with no white background?

You cannot have the image engraved in full-color on a regular stainless steel photo engraved pendant.  The white background allows for the colors of the photo to really pop and because the white face is textured, that same texture is carried through onto the engraved image.  This means that when you run your fingertips over the face of the pendant, you can actually ‘feel’ the engraved image.

Can the back of the pendant be engraved with words?

All of our photo engraved pendants can be engraved with one or more lines of text with each line holding a particular amount of characters depending on the pendant.  Add a name and dates, a verse or song lyric or even a certain phrase that holds special meaning such as “Love you more”.

Can you engrave a symbol such as a cross or a heart on the back of the pendant?

Can you engrave a signature on the back?

Can you engrave a picture on one side and a fingerprint on the other side?

Can you do a military emblem engraved on the back?

Do you offer text for both sides instead of having an image engraved?

What are the different types of fonts you offer for engraved text?

We offer both block font and italic font for engraved text.  For a more masculine or understated approach, we recommend choosing the block font for engraving while those looking for a flowing signature-like font, we suggest choosing a script font.

Can I request a specific font for the personalized text on the back?

Yes. Normal commercial free use fonts can be substituted for the personalized text engraving.

Photo Engraved Jewelry FAQ'S

I have skin allergies and can only wear hypoallergenic metals. What is the photo engraved jewelry made of?

Jewelry Keepsakes photo engraved jewelry is made of hypoallergenic surgical grade stainless steel.  Using stainless steel for our photo engraved jewelry means that our customers are getting a durable and high-quality keepsake that should not cause any sort of allergic reaction.

Is the photo pendant waterproof? Can I wear it in the water?

Although the pendant is waterproof and you would likely be fine, we don’t recommend wearing your photo engraved jewelry in water. Chlorinated water and water containing harsh chemicals can damage the surface of the keepsake and the engraved image.

To preserve the beauty and longevity of both the engraving and the keepsake, we suggest that you remove your pendant when showering, bathing or swimming and put in a safe place until you are out of the water.

Is there any way to add a birthstone to the photo engraved pendant?

Yes! We can add birthstones to any of our photo engraved pendants!  We have a beautiful selection of Swarovski birthstones that would make a wonderful addition to any of our photo engraved jewelry.

I already have a pendant. Can I send the pendant to you and have you add the engraved image?

To ensure extreme quality, we only engrave our own pendants.

Can you engrave authentic military dog tags?

No, we cannot engrave authentic military dog tags.

I want a rose gold-plated pendant but I don’t see them offered without an internal urn. Is there a way to order a specific photo engraved pendant in rose gold?

Is photo engraved jewelry just for remembering the deceased?

Absolutely not! While photo engraved pendants are a wonderful way to show your love for someone that has passed, they can also be used to celebrate those that are still with you.

Ideal for birthdays, special occasions such as Mother’s Day, Christmas or anniversaries , the pendants can be engraved with pictures of children, animals or with any photo that holds particular meaning. Because the engraved image is in the exact likeness of the submitted photo, the personal nature of the keepsake is unique and special to the recipient.


For those that are looking to choose a photo engraved keepsake in memory of the deceased, you have two different styles to choose from - those with an internal urn and those without an internal urn.

Holds Cremains

The photo engraved pendants that have an internal urn will hold a memory such as a pinch of cremated ashes or a few strands of hair and can be engraved with your favorite photo.

Does Not Hold Cremains

The photo engraved pendants that do not hold cremated remains are available in a wide assortment of shapes and styles and can be engraved with any image you choose.

What is included with my photo engraved jewelry?

Every photo engraved pendant includes a matching 20” chain. The chain is placed under the display platform of the jeweler’s gift box in which the pendant comes in. The jeweler’s box, containing the keepsake, and the chain is then placed in a beautiful presentation box. Those photo engraved pendants with an internal urn come with a filling and sealing kit as well as the matching chain.

Does my photo engraved jewelry include a chain?

It sure does!  All of our photo engraved jewelry pendants include a high-quality 20” matching snake chain.  The chain has a lobster claw clasp and the length allows for the pendant to hit underneath the collarbone near the top of the sternum.

What are my chain options?

We have several different types of chains to go with our photo engraved pendants. Each photo engraved keepsake comes with a 20” matching stainless steel or gold-plated chain. Additionally, we have premium chain upgrades. The premium chains are sterling silver and have been silver rhodium plated or gold-plated and are available in 5 different lengths: 18”, 20”, 22”, 24” and 30”.

This allows for great versatility and exceptional value for our customers. All of our chains are snake chains and have a sturdy lobster claw clasp.

Is it possible to get my photo pendant with a 16” chain?

I love the pendant but don’t wear jewelry. Is it possible to have it placed on a keychain instead?

Can I hang it from a mirror?

Absolutely! Photo engraved pendants can be displayed as a necklace, hung on a mirror, or hung from the rearview mirror of your vehicle. You can use the included chain to hang from a decorative mirror or we have a clear filament with magnetized ends if hanging from a rearview mirror of your car is preferable. You can also choose a ribbon,   colored yarn, or string to hang from any mirror. Endless options!

Will the image fade if it’s hanging from my rearview mirror?

Black and white grayscale photo engraved jewelry will not fade over time.  In rare instances, our full-color photo engraved jewelry may fade after prolonged exposure to sunlight, but it is unlikely.

Can I wear several photo engraved pendants together?

You can wear several photo engraved pendants together, however, we do not recommend doing so on the same chain.  The pendants can rub against each other and cause scratching which will impact the clarity of the engraved image.  What we do suggest is layering the pendants!  Choose different length necklaces or chains and layer your pendants together for a multi-faceted look!

I love the pendants but I’m not sure that I would wear them. What other ways can I display my photo engraved pendant?

There are several ways in which you can display your photo engraved jewelry!  Photo engraved pendants can be displayed by hanging them over a picture of a loved one, in a locker, or from the rearview mirror of a car.  You can hang photo engraved pendants from a mirror in a bathroom, hang them from a ribbon in a window or even from a cabinet knob or handle.

Caring For Photo Jewelry FAQ’s

Does my photo engraved jewelry selection come with any care and cleaning instructions? Do I need to buy special cleaners?

Your photo engraved jewelry does not come with any care and cleaning instructions but not to worry - caring for your photo engraved jewelry is very easy! Simply wipe down the front and back surface of the photo engraved jewelry with a jeweler’s cloth or with a dry lint-free cloth once or twice a month. This will remove any build-up of oils and debris that may settle onto the surface with normal wear.

I love my pendant but don’t want to damage it. How should I store my photo jewelry when I’m not wearing it?

We suggest storing your photo engraved jewelry in a cool dry area such as a jewelry box or place it in the velvet jeweler’s gift box that it was delivered in.  Proper storage of your photo jewelry helps keep it looking brand new for years to come and also assures you that the jewelry is in a safe, easily located spot.

When will my photo engraved jewelry arrive?

Most photo engraved jewelry will ship within 1-2 business days of processing your order, but some pieces will ship the same day! Standard delivery is 2-3 business days from when your order was placed, which means that you could have your photo engraved jewelry in 3-5 business days from when your order was placed.

How quickly can I get my pendant?

We offer a variety of shipping options no matter where you live in the world. For those that live in the Continental United States, place your order by 12:00 noon MST Monday through Friday and your order will ship the same day. Standard delivery in the US is 3-5 business days. We also offer overnight and 2-day shipping in the Continental United States.

We offer regular and expedited shipping for Canada, the UK and worldwide.
