The left hand side of the pendant has a black and white image that you select and the image is covered with a clear coat to preserve and protect. The right hand side of the heart features a gemstone like resin that is combined with a very small amount of cremated ashes and allowed to harden. An ash collection kit is sent when your order is placed and any ashes not used in the make up of the pendant are returned to you.
